May 2011 part 4: De Weerribben/ Wieden

At the end of May I participate in a workshop from Han Bouwmeester from www.hanbouwmeester.nl . He originazed a trip in National Park De Wieden.

We went with electric boats to surge for Black Terns. The weather was not the best, and I went for myself two days later to try again to make some photos.

I found that I had more succes using manual exposure and manual focus when photographing these birds.

I stayed a few nights in a  trekking hut on the camping De Kluft. This camping is next to the visiter center of National Park De Weerribben. At the camping you also can rent electric boats and go into the National Park. I did rent one, but the weather was not great.

One of the participants (www.pbase.com/greet_van_der_meulen) from the workshop in De Wieden, gave me a tip: observation tower De Auken. You can see a colony of  Purple Herons and Spoonbills here. When you are lucky they will fly close to the tower.
